Big Bang™ Cosmic Eye Tickseed, otherwise known as Coreopsis BIG BANG™ ‘Cosmic Eye’, and Longstalk Tickseed, is an American hybrid created by Darrel Probst. This herbaceous princess of the prairie consists of bicolored corn-yellow and claret ray florets surrounding a tangerine center. Complemented by emerald-green foliage, this flowering plant is the perfect choice to add interest and charm to any dull space. Reaching a maximum height and spread of 12 to 15 inches, this compact, showy flower with its multicolored 2-inch blooms provides brilliant color from early summer until mid-fall.
An original from North America, Big Bang™ Cosmic Eye Tickseed, has a long list of positive traits to include deer resistance, disease resistance, heat resistance, and drought tolerance. In other words, this upright, slightly fragrant, slow-growing, deciduous plant is the perfect option for any person picking up a trowel for the first time. There’s simply no need to worry. Plus? Its low maintenance regimen won’t disrupt a busy person’s schedule. You’ll get maximum reward in spite of doing minimal work.
Big Bang™ Cosmic Eye Tickseed Care
As long as the substrate is moist and well drained, Big Bang™ Cosmic Eye Tickseed will thrive in a variety of soils ranging from sandy to loamy. Plant this perennial from spring until fall. This lovely plant will do well when exposed to full sun. Possessing moderate watering needs, this herbaceous perennial should be watered about one time weekly. If the soil, one inch below the surface, is dry, then water. If not, then wait a day or two to check again. Low maintenance, Big Bang™ Cosmic Eye Tickseed is not typically a hungry feeder; however, if needed, you can amend its soil with a little compost in early April or May.
To encourage bigger and more brilliant blooms as well as to deter disease, deadhead spent blooms as they appear. If, however, there are many spent blooms, you can shear the whole plant back by one-third using a pair of snips, grass cutters, or a weed whacker depending on how many flowers there are.
Big Bang™ Cosmic Eye Tickseed Spacing
Big Bang™ Cosmic Eye Tickseed will add flashes of bright yellows and reds to any container, border, or field it fills. Space this lovely plant 12 to 18 inches apart from the next one, and these dainty princesses of the prairie will proudly flaunt their beauty to anyone and everyone who walks by.
