Deer Fern

A California Native fern that can be found near the coast of Santa Cruz. It can reach three and a half feet tall by two feet wide. This fern has two types of leaves-sterile and fertile. The sterile leaves have flat wavy leaves and the fertile leaves are narrower and stand upright.

This fern goes dormant in the winter – you should cut back dead fronds in the late winter, early spring.
