The original variety of non-heading type cabbage also known as Southern or Creole, this kind grows up to 2feet tall producing broad, crumpled leaves. Very popular in the South and growing in popularity in other regions. It is grown for its succulent and juicy leaves that have a mild cabbage-like flavor.
SOWINGSow seed outdoors as early as the ground can be worked. Plant in rows 3 feet apart spacing seeds 1 inch apart and cover withinch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seedlings emerge.
THINNINGWhen plants are 2 to 3 inches tall, thin or transplant 2 feet apart in the row.
