Growing to around 20 inches tall, the Achillea millefolium ‘Desred’ produces green fern-like foliage and large clusters of pollinator-friendly flowers. This yarrow is the perfect perennial for a hot and sunny border.
The Desert Eve™ Red Yarrow is drought and heat tolerant and remarkably easy to grow. Furthermore, it generally grows pest-free and is left alone by any deer or rabbits. This yarrow is ideal for the front of a border or a cut-flower garden. Its compact size also makes it well suited to growing in a container.
Desert Eve™ Red Yarrow Care
The Desert Eve™ Red Yarrow performs best when it is planted in full sun and in average-to-poor, well-drained soil. Unlike many other perennials, it grows well in sandy and gravelly soils and in hot locations. Even though it can cope with dry spells once it is established, it will need regular watering for the first growing season. Fertilizing is rarely required.
Once the blooms fade, you can deadhead to promote new flowers to form. In winter or early spring, cut all growth back to the basal leaves.
