The Cocktail grapefruit, a hybrid between a mandarin and pummelo, is a medium-sized evergreen tree reaching up to 20 feet in height and 15 feet in width with dense (semi-dwarfs about 1/2 to 2/3 that size), deep green foliage and fragrant white flowers. It fruits from winter to spring in the Coachella Valley, with the flavor changing from tangy to very sweet as it ripens. It is mostly seedless. While self-fertile, having a second tree may increase yields. It thrives in full sun, fertile, well-draining, slightly acidic soil, and needs regular, deep watering, especially during blooming and fruiting. It can tolerate temperatures down to 30¡F for a short period and should be overwintered indoors in colder climates. It’s an excellent choice for juicing and making syrup due to its sweetness.
