The large yellow blooms of the Leonardo™ Leopard’s Bane are a sure sign of spring. Sunny blooms are 1.5 inches in diameter and boast two rows of long, thin petals. Doronicum orientale also features lush, heart-shaped basal foliage in a green hue. By April, the Leopard’s Bane will be covered in buds that will engulf the plant once they bloom.
This plant has a compact, dense upright growth habit. Plant this beauty in beds, borders, mass plantings, or containers. The bold flowers look lovely in a mixed bed where they can serve as a focal point or a stunning complement to color-coordinated plants. Leonardo™ Leopard’s Bane is a perennial in zones 4 through 8.
Leonardo™ Leopard’s Bane Care
Full sun to partial shade keeps the Leonardo™ Leopard’s Bane pushing out new growth. Soil should be rich, well-drained, and consistently moist, so water weekly or when the top few inches dry out. Top-dress the soil with organic compost or fertilize in the spring using balanced plant food.
As a herbaceous perennial, the greenery will die when the weather turns chilly. Remove dead growth before new leaves start to peek out in the spring.
Leonardo™ Leopard’s Bane Spacing
This upright plant will grow 10 to 12 inches tall and wide. Leonardo™ Leopard’s Bane can be planted 8 to 10 inches apart when creating a full mass planting.
