The Lochinch Butterfly Bush is a showy shrub with fragrant flowers that bloom from summer into fall. The Buddleia ‘Lochinch’ features cone-shaped flower clusters that can grow up to one foot long. Each flower is light purple with blue undertones and a subtle orange eye that adds an unexpected pop of color. Medium-green foliage offsets the blooms and gives the plant a full appearance.

Butterflies are drawn to this shrub, as are hummingbirds and bees. The Lochinch Butterfly Bush is a natural fit in a butterfly garden, but it also looks wonderful in a mixed bed or border. The full, mounded growth habit works well near the middle or back of a bed. This plant sets a woodland or cottage garden tone. Trim the flower spikes to add to arrangements. The Lochinch Butterfly Bush grows in zones 6 through 9.

Lochinch Butterfly Bush Care

Full sun allows the Lochinch Butterfly Bush to thrive and bloom prolifically. Well-drained soil is vital because this shrub cannot tolerate soggy conditions. Give new plants consistent water, while established plants only need water during a dry spell. Fertilize annually each spring.

Deadhead the Lochinch Butterfly Bush to encourage a continued bloom cycle. Wait to cut back the shrub until early spring when green buds appear on the branches. An annual trim encourages full, bushy growth.

Lochinch Butterfly Bush Spacing

Lochinch Butterfly Bush reaches 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. Space plants about 4 feet apart to create a hedge or privacy screen.
