The Casselman is one of the so-called Japanese plums, which is a bit of misnomer since its lineagelike other Japanese plumscan be traced back to China. The Casselman plums ancestors were brought to California from Japan by Luther Burbank around the turn of the twentieth century. Burbankwho did much of his plum breeding in the northern California town of Santa Rosawas responsible for the introduction of more than 100 different varieties of plums including the Casselman.
Ripens August 110 Bud mutation of Late Santa Rosa. Fruit is round, firm, stores well and has good quality. Skin is a light red color with orangishyellow flesh. Fruit has a tendency to crack on stem end, particularly if subjected to rain
